How to get rid of your Virus!

I basically built this page because I get hit with this question so often via email, twitter, facebook, etc that I got tired of copy and pasting the instructions for every email!

Disclaimer:

These are general instructions on what I suggest you do if you think your pc has been compromised by a virus. These steps have been given to many many people with very successful results. You may not however have the same results, so please don’t blame me if it doesn’t work!

Step One
I always tell people to take a DEEP BREATH! Trust me, it helps!

Step Two
Clean up some of the garbage data (Note: if you pc is VERY SLOW, you should do this in Safe Mode)

• Open Up CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS
  • Find the Browsing History area and Click DELETE
  • DELETE Temporary Internet Files
  • DELETE Cookies
  • Close Control Panel
• Click START>RUN> and type in %TEMP% and hit ENTER
  • This will open up a windows explorer window of your temp files
  • Click anywhere in the window and hit CTRL-A (Selects All Files)
  • Hit the DELETE BUTTON
  • Get rid of everything in this folder

Step Three
Download and install all of these FREE applications.  Once they are installed, UPDATE and RUN them in this ORDER:

Avira Anti-Spyware - http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/
Free (and very good) AntiVirus software. (Nag screen pops up when updating each day, but well worth it)

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware – http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe

Emsisoft Anti-Malware (Formerly A-Squared Spyware and Trojan Remover) – http://www.filehippo.com/download_asquared/
If you use anti-virus software, it works the same way – install it, update it, and run it.
You need to run the DEEP SCAN for it to be effective.

SuperAntiSpyware (Spyware remover) – http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/
Pretty aggressive spyware app. I have found that it works very well.

Step Four
Once these are all done (which will take a few hours), Download and run  CCLEANER #mce_temp_url#(Use this link for video on how to download and run the app http://budurl.com/8qak )

Step Five
Then I want you to go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run it. It takes a long time, but it is a very good virus cleaner (at this point it’s important to get a good anti-virus sweep even if you have another anti-virus app installed and running).
